It is not little anymore

Ok, maybe not the most important feature… LAMA has changed the name to LAMA Audio Measurement Application (which is a reverse acronym)

Level Distribution

The Level History Instrument can show a Level Distribution. This is a good feature to analyze loudness perception – which helps to do your show in a constant level.

How does it work?

In the old level history view, you can see a small marker: drag it to adjust the analysis window (or leave the default value of about 3 seconds). On the right you can see the distribution: it just statistics – showing “which” level “how often” exists in the analysis window. Have a look at the images to see the difference between audio which has been compressed very hard and audio with a high dynamic range.

Perceived Loudness

In the distribution view, there are some triangles. The two facing right show the 50% percentile of the distribution — this is the value where one half of the distribution is above and the other half is below. (As in all displays of the Level History Instrument, filled means RMS and outlined means Peak)

This 50% percentile is very close to the perceived loudness. And what do the triangles facing left indicate? Well – this is the current level on the instrument input — you can see very quick if your current level is above or below the perceived value.

Big SPL Window

You find the SPL Instrument too hard to read, because the text size is too small? Now you can create a Big SPL Window. Just click on the new Big Window button in the control view of the SPL Instrument. It can change font color when certain thresholds are exceeded, so you can use it as a SPL traffic light.

SPL Log Window

All SPL Logs are now saved in a central place. This new SPL Log Window can be opened in the Windows menu. Also export to .csv has moved here.
